Outline View
This tutorial introduces you to the various outlining capabilities of Microsoft Word. Outline view is a powerful way to move text around and control the heading levels spread through the document. To effectively use the Outline view, it is necessary that you have a document formatted with Heading styles of many levels.
You can also create a master document from a single file organized with outlining. Word enables you to use the Heading 1–9 styles as a basis for identifying how to separate the content of a single document into a series of subdocuments.
Create a master document from a container document, and then insert and coordinate existing documents with heading styles/outlining applied. You must back up those documents before turning them into subdocuments.

A master document is a document that contains two or more subdocuments, or component documents. You can edit the master document as a whole or edit its subdocuments separately. The advantage of master documents is that several people can work on different subdocuments at the same time, instead of only one person being able to open the same copy of the document at a time.
